Stephen Sun Chiao, Ph.D.

Dr. Chiao has been Sycamore Venture’s Managing Partner in charge of technology and Asia-based investments since 1999. In 2012, he took over the responsibilities of managing Sycamore’s Asia Star Fund.  He was the Investment Committee member of Sycamore’s SVC and Asia Star funds. Dr. Chiao has more than 10 years of industrial experience with senior technical and managerial positions at Varian Associates, HP, Gould/AMI and Mosel. He has been a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, San Jose State University, California, and is also a Honorary Professor of Shanghai Science & Technology University and China Institute of Metrology and a Senior advisor to the Center for Industry and Capital Research, Tsinghua University, Beijing. Successful investments he has been involved in include: Applied BioCode, ACM Research, Analogic Tech., Applied Optoelectronic, Atheros, Corrigo, OSA Technologies, and Telenav in the United States. ACM Research –Shanghai, Bizlink Technology, Co-Tech Copper Foil, MIC, Ralink Technology, SMIC, Sun Tech.,Tai-Yang Computer and Waferworks in Asia.
Dr. Chiao received his Ph.D. in Material Science & Engineering from Stanford University.
